A Layover in Stockholm and Notes on Heritage

StockholmI’ve never been all that interested in family heritage, geographically speaking. I’m a smattering of European, and according to my 23&me genetic test, a bit of Northern Africa is thrown in as well. I have always had an interest in my family lineage, but never felt much desire or connection to the various places they hailed from. For a lot of Americans, knowing geographical heritage is important (read: lineage trips to Ireland), I’m sure in part because our history culture wise is pretty limited. I couldn’t tell you why I didn’t have much of an interest, but it just wasn’t there.  Not until recently at least. Continue reading

Noma.

NomaNoma. Despite the hype, my excitement regarding the prospect of eating here has never once wavered. I never thought I would be able to navigate the highly competitive reservation system, and even if I could, that whatever random time/day combination would never work with travel plans. It was my first real trip overseas.  A band played at the boarding gate which had been roped off for passengers, they were dressed in lederhosen,  there were mini sausages too. I thought it was all pretty cool. Continue reading

New Years in Prague

Evidently, during the New Year locals take trips outside the city, and I don’t blame them, during these few days the city is swamped with tourists. A variety of flags can be seen bobbing about in the crowd as tour groups play follow the leader, and we try to weave our way to a less crowded street, and not get trampled. It’s a bit of an annoyance, and detractor, but Prague is such a fabulous city, even in the crowds its hard not to love it.  Continue reading
