We’ve been walking for one week! 165 km down. Today was a long day. 28km, though it seems my body is fine regardless of distance until the last ten percent. But that seems to be the norm, and we spend our last few kilometers comparing what hurts and helping each other get to the end point. Today we are all tired.

Day 6: Los Arcos, 21.5 km
A short, 22km day. We sailed through, winding up averaging 5km/hr and getting around noon. While my muscles have adapted and are perfectly fine, my joints are not entirely amused. But, that could also have to do with going quite fast. In a very uncharacteristic move, I did not attempt to push on to the next town, 8km away to make tomorrow easier. But instead opted to rest in Los Arcos and push 28km to Logroño tomorrow.
Day 5: Estella, 21.9 km

Today was interesting. We passed the first 100km mark. It rained for the first time. And we got “lost” for the first time. It wasn’t that long of a day, but it was hard, and everyone we talked too agreed. No one really knows why. Perhaps it the first week wall everyone talks about, where eventually it’s just hard for no apparent reason. But then you break through to the other side and things get easier. Here’s to hoping! But, at least there’s a sense that everyone else is right there struggling too.
Day 4: Puente La Reina, 23.8 km

We woke this morning at 6am, because Aoife couldn’t find her alarm which was going off. Though 6am seems to be somewhat the norm, as someone is usually getting up around then. After a quick breakfast, we head out by 7. This is primarily, the beat the afternoon heat, and 7am is first light. I felt stronger today and the first 10km breezed by as we left Pamplona and headed towards the rolling green hills, punctuated by the neon swatches of canola plants.
