London Weekender

London

London

For our one year anniversary I bought us tickets to Book of Mormon in London (because it’s sort of paper?) for this last weekend. We aren’t really present on occasions people, preferring spontaneous, unexpected present giving, so originally we had no plans of getting anything for our first anniversary. But, always being one for experiential gifts, it seemed like a good excuse to fit in a mini-trip. London just happened to be where the show was playing on a date that worked with a price that worked. And so, this weekend we hopped on Ryan Air and headed to London. Continue reading

Dublin Running

Phoenix Park

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back to Dublin running! Well, for now. Until it rains, and gets miserable, then I’ll complain constantly. But for now, it’s perfect! I can run at any time of the day (it’s almost never over 64 in the fall) and only run hills if I want to, otherwise it’s smooth and flat for miles. The last time I ran in Dublin I was just weeks into learning, logging three slow miles each run max. Now, with some solid baseline training behind me, I finally get to explore what Dublin has to offer runners. We haven’t been back a week and I’ve been able to log nearly 30 miles and complete my first 100-mile month, aiming for 150 for October. It’s such a different experience, being able to run for miles without struggling or gasping for air or getting side cramps, I’m finally able to enjoy my runs.  Continue reading

Before we left I had a chat with our airbnb host, as I was telling her how much we enjoyed the city she told me, “yeah, you know I’ve lived a lot of places in my life, but Atlanta is just so livable.” She has indeed lived a multitude of places, including San Francisco (Height-Ashbury, back in the day), so I trust her. And it’s true, for a large city Atlanta is just really livable. It’s not just the low cost of living, or the pleasant weather, the great food, access to outdoors, or gorgeous neighborhoods. There’s something a bit different about Atlanta. Continue reading

Three Forks to Springer Mountain: Contemplations on the Appalachian Trail

Along the AT

Along the AT

All of a sudden it was our last weekend in the US. 13 weeks down, only one to go until we head back to Ireland.  It’s been a great summer, 10 cities, 13,000 miles flown, family, new friends, old friends, and incredible adventures. So, naturally it flew by. A recap deserves its own post, so for now: our last weekend we spent camping along the AT.  Continue reading
